Brittany Daniel: Cancer Survivor

Brittany Daniels of BET’s “The Game,”  has kept her battle with cancer quiet — until now.

“It happened so suddenly,” she told People Magazine in its latest issue.

Daniel, 38, who now stars as Kelly Pitts on BET’s “The Game,” said she started having night sweats and back pain in the summer of 2011. After seeing the doctor, she was diagnosed with stage IV non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,  a form of blood cancer.

“I feel like there is is no way I would have ever gotten through this without my family,” Brittany said. “When I found out I had cancer, my mom was the hugest support for me — she flew out and she was my rock and my sister, well, she’s amazing; she took me into her home and I ended up staying at my sister’s house.”

After chemotherapy, the actress relied on those closest to her for support.

“My mom was the hugest support for me,” she said. “She was my rock. My sister [Cynthia] was just amazing, she took me into her home and I ended up staying at my sister’s house. My mom moved in with me, we stayed at my sister’s guest house and my mom took care of me for a year and a half.”

The “Joe Dirt” actress, who is now cancer free, decided to break her silence years later to inspire others through their own cancer battles.

“My family is everything to me,” the actress added. “I feel like they saw me through this and going through this experience just made me realize that family is everything. I mean, I’ve always been very close with my family, but it made me realize that I absolutely want to have my own family and you just can’t go through something like this without your friends and family.”

“I want to let people know it is absolutely possible to get through something like this,” she said. “I want people to know they are not alone.”

On Oct. 15, 2013, “The Game” actress Brandy tweeted an Instagram photo of herself with Brittany and Coby Bell, who plays Pitts’ ex-husband Jason, saying: “Look who’s BACK! @thegameBET #season7.” Brittany returns to “The Game” in a season 7, She told People that the series creator offered her  old job back himself.

“And then just the fans being so excited that I’m coming back this season has just been amazing,” she said. “It’s been a blessing.”
