Watch André 3000 As Jimi Hendrix In Upcoming Biopic
The André 3000-starring Jimi Hendrix biopic is just about ready, despite disapproval from the Hendrix estate.
The film won’t feature any of Hendrix’s original songs—the late rock’n’roll icon’s estate objected to the film and refused to grant rights to his music. Instead, the film features scenes where Hendrix covers songs by the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Muddy Waters, and Elmore James.
According to The Telegraph, the biopic titled, All Is By My Side, scripted and directed by 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley, focuses the Hendrix breakthrough years of 1966 to 1967 when Hendrix was a back-up guitarist playing the grimy New York Cheetah Club. Groupie Linda Keith, an ex girlfriend of the Rolling Stones’s Keith Richards, persuades him to fly to London where the unremarkable Jimmy James transforms himself into Jimi Hendrix.
The film closes with Hendrix being invited to the Monterey Pop Festival to play the concert that cemented his fame and elevated him to rock icon.
